Accepting the ‘Best Actor’ Oscar for the biopic ‘Oppenheimer,’ Irish actor Cillian Murphy expressed pride in his homeland from the Dolby stage. He acknowledged director Christopher Nolan and producer Emma Thomas for the “wildest, most exhilarating, most creatively satisfying journey” spanning two decades.

Dedication to Peacemakers: A Powerful Finale

In his acceptance speech, Murphy dedicated the award to peacemakers worldwide, reflecting on the film’s exploration of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the creator of the atomic bomb. He acknowledged the impact of living in “Oppenheimer’s world” and thanked the cast and crew for their support.

‘Oppenheimer’ Sweeps Oscars with Multiple Wins

The success of ‘Oppenheimer’ extended beyond Murphy’s individual triumph, as the film secured multiple awards at the 96th Academy Awards. In addition to ‘Best Actor,’ the biopic claimed honors for Best Supporting Actor, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Directing, and Best Picture.

This recognition follows Murphy’s earlier wins at the BAFTA Awards 2024 and Golden Globe Awards 2024 for his stellar performance in the film. ‘Oppenheimer,’ set against the backdrop of World War II, portrays the moral dilemma faced by J. Robert Oppenheimer as he grapples with the creation of the atomic bomb.
