Cheetah ‘Agni’ Repatriated to Kuno National Park After Escaping

In a concerted operation between Kuno National Park and the Forest Department of Baran district, Cheetah ‘Agni’ was successfully repatriated to Kuno National Park in Rajasthan after escaping from the park’s confines. Agni, along with another male Cheetah named Vayu, was initially released in the Parond Forest area of Kuno National Park on December 17.

Following Agni’s departure from the Kuno area into Baran, where the borders align with Kuno, vigilant monitoring by the Kuno National Park tracking team tracked Agni’s movements. The Cheetah navigated through Shivpuri forests in Madhya Pradesh, eventually reaching Kelwara forests in the Baran district.

A team of Cheetah experts and the forest department from Baran initiated the repatriation operation, involving multiple vehicles. Baran’s Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Deepak Gupta and Ranger Tarun Rawat were present throughout the operation.

DFO Deepak Gupta emphasized, “A Cheetah had strayed from Kuno National Park into Baran’s forests, and our team successfully rescued and relocated it back to Kuno National Park. The bordering areas of Kuno National Park and Baran district are contiguous, facilitating wildlife movement between the two regions.”

The ‘Cheetah Reintroduction Project,’ commenced with the release of Cheetahs on December 17, allowing tourists to witness these animals
