Chapman’s Fifty Seals NZ Victory: 7-Wicket Win Over Pakistan in 3rd T20I
Mark Chapman’s dynamic innings of 87 runs led New Zealand to a 7-wicket victory over Pakistan in the 3rd T20I at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. After opting to field first, New Zealand’s decision paid off as Pakistan’s opening pair, Saim Ayub (32 runs) and Babar Azam (37 runs), put up a 55-run stand.
Ish Sodhi broke the partnership by dismissing Ayub in the 7th over, and Michael Bracewell further tilted the match in New Zealand’s favor by removing Azam in the 11th over. Pakistan faced a setback when Mohammad Rizwan (22 runs) got injured. Despite Shadab Khan’s aggressive 41 runs and Irfan Khan’s 30 runs, Pakistan managed to score 178/4.
In response, New Zealand’s opening duo, Tim Robinson (28 runs) and Tim Seifert (21 runs), contributed 42 runs. Abbas Afridi got the breakthrough by dismissing Seifert, while Naseem Shah took out Robinson. However, Chapman’s partnership with Dean Foxcroft (31 runs) turned the game, with their 117-run stand sealing the win for New Zealand with Chapman unbeaten on 87.
Abbas Afridi added another wicket by dismissing Foxcroft in the 18th over. James Neesham and Chapman remained not out, guiding New Zealand to victory. Pakistan’s bowling lacked consistency, with Afridi and Shah being the only wicket-takers. With this win, the series is now level at 1-1.
Brief score: Pakistan 178/4 (Shadab Khan 41, Babar Azam 37, Saim Ayub 32; Ish Sodhi 2/25) vs New Zealand (Mark Chapman 87*, Dean Foxcroft 31, Tim Robinson 28; Abbas Afridi 2/27).
