CBI Arrests Four in Manipur Violence Cases

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken swift action in the ongoing investigation of cases related to violence in Manipur. On Sunday, the CBI announced the arrest of four individuals linked to the troubling incidents. The four accused have been identified as Paominlun Haokip, S Malsawm Haokip, Lhingneichong Baitekuki, and Tinneilhing Henthang.

Accused Role in Tragic Student Deaths

Two men and two women have been apprehended in connection with these cases, with the CBI confirming their involvement in the tragic deaths of two students. These arrests come as a significant development in the investigation.

The CBI’s involvement in these cases began on August 23, 2023, following a request from the Manipur Government. The agency took over the investigation from the State Police, who had initially registered complaints from the parents of minor victims. The complaints were dated July 8 at Police Station Imphal and July 19 at Police Station Lamphel.

Legal Proceedings and Child Welfare

As the investigation unfolds, the arrested individuals will be presented before the Competent Court at Guwahati, designated in accordance with the orders of the Supreme Court. Furthermore, during the transit of these accused individuals from Imphal, Manipur, to Guwahati, Assam, two minor children accompanied them. The CBI has ensured their welfare, protection, and care by handing them over to the District Child Protection Officer, Kamrup Metro District.

These developments follow the emergence of photos of the two deceased students, which sparked heightened tension in various districts of the state. Reports of clashes between security forces and student protestors added to the gravity of the situation. The arrests by the CBI signify a significant step toward justice and resolution in these troubling cases.
