Calcutta High Court Restrains Coercive Action Against ED Officers in Sandeshkhali Raid FIR
The Calcutta High Court has issued a directive preventing coercive measures against Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers involved in an FIR lodged against them following the Sandeshkhali raid. ED reported that three of its officers were injured and robbed during an attack on them at Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district on January 5. The assault occurred while they were conducting a raid at Shajahan Sheikh’s residence in connection with alleged irregularities in the state’s ration system.
The ED counsel informed the court that four cases were registered concerning the incident. Among these, one pertained to the attack on ED officials, while another was filed against the officers themselves.
Justice Jay Sengupta verbally directed that, in connection with the FIR against ED officials involved in searching Sheikh’s premises in Sandeshkhali, no coercive steps should be taken. This legal intervention aims to safeguard the ED officers from immediate punitive actions while the investigation unfolds.
