A bus transporting polling officials and electronic voting machines (EVMs) caught fire in Betul district, Madhya Pradesh, near Goula village in Multai tehsil. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, with Betul SP Nischal Jharia attributing the fire to a mechanical fault.
Out of the six EVMs on board, two remained undamaged, while four sustained minor damage to their parts. All 36 individuals aboard the bus managed to exit safely, breaking the glass windows as the doors got jammed. Betul Collector DM Narendra Kumar Suryavanshi confirmed the incident, stating that a report has been submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for further instructions.
This incident occurred during the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh, where nine seats, including Betul, witnessed a voting turnout of approximately 66.05%. Notable candidates in the fray included former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
