BJP Rules Out Pre-poll Alliances in J-K, Confident of Winning 50+ Seats Independently

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has affirmed that it will not engage in a pre-poll alliance for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Senior leader Ashok Koul expressed confidence that the party is poised to secure over 50 seats independently, enabling it to establish a government without coalition partners. Koul, who serves as the BJP’s General Secretary, Organization, in Jammu and Kashmir, conveyed this stance to reporters on Thursday.

Koul emphasized that while the possibility of alliances could be considered post-elections, the BJP’s current strategy is centered on surpassing the 50-seat mark based on the substantial support it is garnering in Kashmir. In response to claims by some political parties in Jammu and Kashmir suggesting that the BJP is apprehensive about facing the elections, Koul refuted such notions, asserting that the BJP is fully prepared for the polls.

Addressing concerns about the acceptance of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Article 370, particularly by parties in the valley, Koul reiterated the BJP’s position that all parties should acknowledge the verdict of the Apex Court. He emphasized the importance of respecting the decisions of the highest court in democratic India.

Commenting on the expulsion of MPs from the Parliament, Koul criticized the conduct of opposition parties, asserting that no one should mock the country’s institutions. He specifically pointed to an incident involving Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of indulging in mimicry of the Vice President and creating a video for that purpose. Koul attributed such actions to the frustration of opposition parties following their losses in three significant states, cautioning against undermining the institutions that form the backbone of the nation.
