BJP MLA Chandrabhan-Singh Akya Defies Party, Announces Independent Run
In an unexpected turn of events, BJP MLA Chandrabhan Singh Akya, who was denied a party ticket, has declared his intention to contest as an independent candidate in the upcoming election. He will challenge the BJP’s official candidate, Narpat Singh Rajvi, in the Chittorgarh assembly constituency.
Threats and a Police Complaint
Adding a layer of complexity to the situation, Akya has filed a police complaint alleging that an anonymous caller threatened to harm him and his family if he contested the election. The caller’s threats prompted Akya to seek security. He remains determined to file his nomination on November 2.
Supporter Protests and Ticket Allocation Controversy
Supporters of Chandrabhan Singh Akya have been protesting the BJP’s decision to allocate the ticket for the Chittorgarh seat to Narpat Singh Rajvi, who is the son-in-law of former vice president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. Rajvi is a sitting MLA from the Vidhyadhar Nagar seat in Jaipur. The controversy surrounding ticket allocation in the BJP has added tension to the upcoming assembly polls in Rajasthan, scheduled for November 25.
Investigation into Threats
The Chittorgarh Sadar Station House Officer, Bhawani Singh, confirmed that Akya had filed a police complaint regarding the threats he received. The threats were allegedly made by an unidentified individual who called from different numbers and threatened Akya, as well as his family and office. The police are currently investigating the matter. The ongoing political turmoil reflects the complexity of party politics and ticket distribution in the lead-up to the state’s assembly elections.
