Beat the Heat with These Essential Summer Safety Tips
Stay cool by wearing a hat and lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. Light-colored clothing reflects the sun’s rays, while loose-fitting clothes allow for good airflow and help keep you cool. A hat with a wide brim provides extra protection for your face and neck.
Hydrate and Pace Yourself
Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, especially during physical activity. Avoid or limit exercise during the hottest hours of the day, typically between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you must exercise, pace yourself and take regular breaks to cool down. Listen to your body and stop if you experience symptoms of heat exhaustion, such as dizziness or nausea.
Find Relief in Air-Conditioned Spaces
Visit an air-conditioned space when you need to cool down. Shopping malls, libraries, and community centers are great places to escape the heat. You can also consider visiting a friend or family member with air conditioning. If you don’t have access to air conditioning, consider visiting a public pool or beach to cool off.
