Ayush and Health Ministers to Unveil Multi-Center Clinical Trial for Anaemia
The Union Minister of AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya are set to announce a significant development on Monday, marking a crucial step in healthcare research. This announcement pertains to a multi-centre clinical trial on anaemia, orchestrated by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Multi-Center Clinical Trial for Anaemia:Research Initiative: Evaluating the Efficacy and Safety of Ayurvedic Formulations
The research study, titled “Efficacy and safety of Punarnavadi Mandura alone and in combination with Drakshavaleha compared to iron folic acid in the treatment of moderate iron deficiency anaemia among non-pregnant women of reproductive age group: a community-based three-arm multi-centre randomised controlled trial,” aims to explore the effectiveness and safety of Punarnavadi Mandura in treating anaemia. This polyherbal formulation, rich in iron, will be studied both in isolation and in conjunction with Drakshavaleha, offering a unique approach compared to conventional iron folic acid treatments.

Multi-Center Clinical Trial for Anaemia:Expansion of Ayush-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrative Health Research
Simultaneously, the ministers will inaugurate the Ayush-ICMR Advanced Centre for Five Integrative Health Research (AI-ACIHR) at four selected AIIMS locations. These advanced centres will focus on Gastro-intestinal Disorders, Women and Child Health, Geriatric Health, and Cancer Care. This initiative marks a holistic approach to healthcare, integrating traditional Ayurvedic practices with modern medical research.
Multi-Center Clinical Trial for Anaemia:Setting Standards: Launch of Indian Public Health Standards for Ayush Healthcare Facilities
In addition to the groundbreaking clinical trial and research centres, the ministers will launch Indian public health standards for Ayush healthcare facilities. These standards aim to establish uniformity in infrastructure, human resources, and medicines. States and Union territories are expected to adopt these standards, ensuring the delivery of high-quality Ayush healthcare services to the population. Emphasizing preventive, promotive, curative, palliative, and rehabilitative services within the public health domain, these standards align with the National Health Policy (NHP) of 2017.
In summary, the collaborative efforts between the AYUSH ministry and the health ministry reflect a forward-thinking approach, blending traditional Ayurvedic practices with modern scientific research to enhance healthcare services and address prevalent health issues such as anaemia.
