Authorities Shut Jama Masjid Srinagar, Bar Shab-e-Baraat Observance
Srinagar, Feb 13 – The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid has expressed strong disappointment after authorities abruptly closed the gates of Jama Masjid Srinagar following Asr prayers, asking worshippers to vacate the premises.
The Auqaf was also informed that the observance of Shab-e-Baraat at the mosque would not be permitted.
In a statement, the Anjuman condemned the move, calling it a “repressive measure” that deeply hurts the religious sentiments of the people.
Additionally, it reported that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest earlier in the morning, preventing him from performing his religious duties.
“It is deeply unfortunate that every time an important religious occasion arrives, people visiting the Jama Masjid in large numbers find it forcibly closed, and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is barred from fulfilling his religious responsibilities,” the statement read.
