Arunachal Pradesh CM Inaugurates Bichom District
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, accompanied by Union Minister for Earth Science Kiren Rijiju, marked a historic moment on Thursday as they inaugurated the newly formed Bichom district. This district, carved out of West Kameng and East Kameng districts, has been a lingering aspiration since 1984.

Congratulating the people of Bichom district, Chief Minister Khandu expressed satisfaction in honoring the voices of diverse communities. He emphasized the fulfillment of a longstanding demand, stating, “Honoring voices of diverse communities, we have fulfilled the longstanding demand of creation of the district, pending since 1984.”
Arunachal Pradesh CM Inaugurates Bichom:Origins of the Demand and Committee Formation
Chief Minister Khandu provided historical context, revealing that the demand for the Bichom district originated in 1984. However, it gained official recognition after the formation of the Bichom District Demand Committee in 1996, chaired by Kiren Rijiju. Khandu acknowledged the pivotal role played by MLAs Mama Natung, Goruk Pordung, and Dongru Siongju in realizing the creation of Bichom district.
Arunachal Pradesh CM Inaugurates Bichom:Legislative Steps and Inclusivity
In February, the state Assembly passed the Arunachal Pradesh (Re-Organisation of Districts) (Amendment) Bill, 2024, facilitating the creation of Bichom district along with Keyi Panyor. The new district aims to enhance accessibility to far-flung areas and accelerate economic development for the Miji, Sajolang, Aka (Koro), and Puroik communities. Khandu assured support for infrastructure development and pledged to replace existing assets transferred from East Kameng with new ones.
Khandu detailed that 27 villages from West Kameng and 28 villages from East Kameng would merge with Bichom district, fostering regional integration. The Chief Minister also flagged off vehicles for Self-Help Groups under Arunachal Grameen Express Yojana, inaugurated projects, and highlighted the inauguration of a Multi Technology Testing Centre and Administrative Building of Central Agricultural University. Cabinet minister Mama Natung, along with various MLAs and representatives, graced the event, signifying a collaborative effort towards the holistic development of the newly formed Bichom district.
