Following a strategic reorganization led by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), Jio Financial has now ascended to the large-cap segment, marking a significant development. Concurrently, three new entrants—Tata Tech, JSW Infra, and IREDA—have made their debut in the mid-cap category. According to a report from Nuvama Institutional Equities, the large-cap threshold has been raised to ₹67,000 crore, a notable increase from its previous level of ₹49,700 crore as of June 2023. Similarly, the mid-cap cutoff has experienced an upward adjustment to ₹22,000 crore, surpassing the earlier mark of ₹17,400 crore.

In the transition from mid-cap to large-cap status, Jio Financial has prominently joined the large-cap category. Notable stocks making this transition include Power Finance Corporation, IRFC, Macrotech Developers, Polycab India, REC, Shriram Finance, Union Bank, and IOB.

Conversely, stocks that have moved from small-cap to mid-cap include Mazagon Dock, Suzlon Energy, Lloyds Metals, SJVN, Kalyan Jewellers, KEI Industries, Credit Access Grameen, Exide Industries, Nippon Life, Ajanta Pharma, Narayana Hrudaya, and Glenmark Pharma.

On the flip side, certain stocks have shifted from large-cap to mid-cap, including Hero Motocorp Limited, Samvardhana Motherson International Limited, Tube Investments Of India Limited, Bosch Limited, Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Limited, PI Industries Limited, Adani Wilmar Limited, and UPL Limited.

Further adjustments are observed in the transition from mid-cap to small-cap, affecting stocks like Carborundum Universal Limited, Kajaria Ceramics Limited, Bata India Limited, Bharat Dynamics Limited, Aditya Birla Fashion And Retail Limited, Laurus Labs Limited, Sumitomo Chemical India Limited, Navin Fluorine International Limited, Atul Limited, Whirlpool Of India Ltd, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Limited, Vinati Organics Limited, Aarti Industries Limited, Pfizer Limited, and Rajesh Exports Limited.

According to the ICRA report, approximately 108 new companies have been added to the list, with R R Kabel Limited, Cello World Limited, Honasa Consumer Limited, and Concord Biotech Limited among the fresh entrants in the small-cap category.

Active equity mutual fund managers commonly refer to the AMFI stock categorization list. Abhilash Pagaria, Head of Nuvama Alternative & Quantitative Research, notes that while re-categorization enhances visibility for stocks moving from lower to higher categories, the impact on flows may not be immediate.
