Alaska Airlines Resumes Boeing 737 MAX 9 Flights
Alaska Airlines resumed flights with its Boeing 737 MAX 9 fleet on Friday, marking a significant step after a mid-flight incident prompted comprehensive inspections. Flight 1146 from Seattle to San Diego initiated the resumption, following the FAA’s announcement of a maintenance and inspection program.
Inspections and Fleet Status
Inspections on Alaska Airlines’ 65 MAX 9 planes are expected to conclude by the end of the next week, enabling a full return to its flight schedule. The FAA grounded 171 MAX 9 planes after a door plug blew out mid-flight on January 5. Alaska Airlines anticipates a $150 million impact due to the grounding.
United Airlines’ Schedule
United Airlines, which also faced the grounding order, plans the first flight of one of its affected aircraft on Sunday. The US Transportation Safety Board is actively investigating the January 5 incident, with a report expected next week. The resumption of MAX 9 flights underscores ongoing safety measures and inspections within the aviation industry.
