Air India Faces Backlash Over Flight Delay
In a recent incident that drew public ire, Air India faced criticism for leaving passengers stranded at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The delay of a Kolkata-bound flight due to a technical issue caused considerable inconvenience, particularly as it occurred during the festive season of Diwali, a time when many are traveling to be with family.
Stranded Passengers and Delayed Response
Flight AI 762 was initially scheduled to depart at 9 pm IST but was postponed until nearly midnight, causing disarray among passengers who were left waiting without clear communication from Air India staff. The delay extended well into the early hours of the morning, with passengers stranded until 2 am.
Passenger Discontent and Airline’s Apology
Amidst the chaos, passengers expressed their frustration over the lack of assistance and absence of refreshments during the prolonged wait. Dr. Souradipta Chandra, a senior doctor and one of the affected passengers, shared his ordeal of being unable to attend to his patients due to the flight delay, which resulted in him rescheduling his flight for the following day.
Social Media Outcry and Air India’s Statement
The incident was brought to light on social media by Dr. Chandra, who posted a video capturing the stressful scene at the airport, and tagged the Aviation Minister in his complaint. Air India responded with an apology on social media, acknowledging the inconvenience caused and assuring that the feedback would be used to improve their services. The airline’s history of cancellations due to technical snags in this sector added to the passengers’ grievances.
