AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi Appointed Pro-tem Speaker for Telangana Assembly

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has appointed AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi as the Pro-tem Speaker for the upcoming session of the state Assembly. Akbaruddin Owaisi, the Floor Leader of AIMIM and Chandrayangutta MLA, will officiate as the Pro-tem Speaker during the first session of the third Telangana State Legislative Assembly, starting on Saturday.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 180 of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Telangana hereby appoints Sri Akbar Uddin Owaisi being a Member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly to perform the duties of the Speaker…,” the official notification stated.

The Pro-tem Speaker’s role is temporary, overseeing the Assembly session until the newly-elected members take their oath, and a Speaker is elected. Congress emerged as the single largest party in the recent Telangana elections, marking the end of the BRS’s 10-year reign.
