ACB Nabs Range Officer in Bandipora for Accepting Bribe
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, a Range Officer at Kuhihama Forest Division in Bandipora, after catching him red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
The officer was allegedly seeking the sum as a commission for processing a pending bill belonging to a complainant.
The ACB received a written complaint from a contractor outlining that the Range Officer was demanding a bribe of Rs 15,000 for the release of three bills, totaling approximately Rs 1 Lakh.
After negotiations, the amount was settled at Rs 10,000, covering the pending bill along with two already released bills. Following this, the complainant sought legal intervention from the ACB.
Subsequently, an investigation was initiated, leading to the formation of a trap team led by a DySP-level officer.
The team successfully apprehended the accused while he was accepting the bribe. The accused was taken into custody as per legal procedures, and searches were conducted at his residence.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, as stated by the ACB spokesman.
