Abdul Samad First JK Batter to Score Centuries in Both Ranji Innings
Abdul Samad etched his name in the record books during the Ranji Trophy match between Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) and Odisha, becoming the first cricketer from J&K to score centuries in both innings of a Ranji Trophy match.
Battling tough conditions in Cuttack, Samad reached his fifth first-class century, proving to be a pivotal player for J&K. In the first innings, he scored a vital hundred, and in the second innings, he remained unbeaten on 108 from 100 balls, smashing 5 fours and 6 sixes. Support also came from Sahil Lotra, who added 28 runs, and Auqib Nabi, contributing 15.
J&K had a slim 2-run deficit after the first innings but set Odisha a target of 269. Odisha’s batters managed to survive the pressure, ending their second innings at 112/8 in 80.4 overs. Sandeep Pattanaik’s resilient knock of 55 not out from 222 balls was crucial in helping Odisha avoid defeat.
J&K’s bowling unit worked well together, with Abid Mushtaq, Sahil Lotra, Umar Nazir, and Shubham Pundir each claiming two wickets. Although the match concluded in a draw, Samad’s extraordinary feat stands out, underscoring the growing cricket talent in J&K. Brigadier Anil Gupta of the JKCA commended Samad for his landmark performance.
