Global Nuclear Weapons Spending Hits Record High in 2025 Amid Rising Global Tensions: ICAN & SIPRI Reveal
NEW DELHI, JUNE 09, 2026 [VoM News]: Amid growing geopolitical instability and fears of a fresh arms race, new reports have revealed increased global spending on nuclear weapons in 2025, raising concerns over the risk of future nuclear conflict.
The reports were released by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). According to the reports, spending on nuclear programmes increased by 19% in 2025 compared to 2024, raising serious concerns globally.
The United States topped the chart with the highest spending of $69 billion towards its nuclear arsenal, followed by China, Russia, India, Pakistan, France, Israel and North Korea.

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) stated that although the total number of global nuclear warheads has declined in recent years, the number of weapons kept ready for immediate use is increasing.
The United States and Russia together possess nearly 83 percent of the world’s nuclear stockpile, while China remains the fastest-growing nation in terms of expanding its nuclear arsenal.
