WASHINGTON, Apr 26 (VoM News): A shooting incident disrupted a high-profile event, the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner attended by President Donald Trump at the Washington Hilton late Saturday, creating panic and chaos.

The incident occurred when President Donald Trump was addressing journalists, triggering panic among guests and leading to the immediate evacuation of high-profile attendees.

As per reports, witnesses reported hearing loud gunfire, and guests took cover under tables until security personnel rushed in.

Immediately, Secret Service agents surrounded President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump and safely escorted them off the stage through a secured exit. Within a short period of time, the ballroom, filled with several hundred attendees, was evacuated.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and TV personality-turned-official Mehmet Oz, along with several other senior officials, were also seen being escorted out safely by the agents.

As the gunfire started, “Stay down” and “Get down” were among the initial warnings shouted as chaos unfolded inside the hall. Plates crashed and guests scrambled for safety as agents secured the area.

As per officials, the suspected gunman, identified as Cole Thomas Allen and described by Trump as a “lone wolf,” had breached a security checkpoint outside the ballroom and opened fire.

Security took the suspect into custody. A Secret Service agent was reportedly hit but survived due to a bulletproof vest, according to global media reports.

Donald Trump later stated that he initially thought the noise was a dropped tray before realising it was gunfire.

Trump commented, “It’s not going to deter me.” Now, investigators are still working to determine the motive, said President Trump.

The event has been cancelled, and it is believed it will be rescheduled.

The incident also draws a coincidence from 1981, when an assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan took place, reviving memories of that event.

So far, authorities have not confirmed any fatalities, while security agencies continue to investigate the breach and circumstances surrounding the attack.
