Jannik Sinner Beats Carlos Alcaraz to Win Monte Carlo Masters, Reclaims World No. 1 Spot
Monte Carlo, Apr 12 (VoM News): Jannik Sinner defeated defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets on Sunday to win the Monte Carlo Masters title for the first time and reclaim the world No. 1 ranking.
Sinner edged past Alcaraz 7-6 (5), 6-3 in a high quality final at the Monte Carlo Country Club, marking his maiden Masters title on clay.
“The result is amazing. Getting back to No. 1 means a lot to me,” Sinner said after the win.
The final was another chapter in the growing rivalry between the two young stars, often dubbed the “Sincaraz” clash. It was their ninth final meeting, with Sinner narrowing the head to head gap to 10-7.
The Italian, 24, showed strong composure, especially in the second set where he came back from 3-1 down in challenging windy conditions to take control of the match.
He sealed victory on his first match point after Alcaraz sent a forehand long, before dropping to his knees in celebration.
“I felt a bit tired, so I tried to keep the right mentality. Winning this trophy means a lot to me,” Sinner added.
Alcaraz, who came into the final on a 17 match winning streak on clay, struggled with consistency and made 45 unforced errors. Despite the loss, the Spaniard praised his rival’s performance.
“It is impressive what you are achieving right now. Congratulations on everything,” Alcaraz said.
The win marks Sinner’s third title of the season after triumphs at Indian Wells and Miami, making him only the second player after Novak Djokovic to win the first three Masters events in a single year.
Sinner will officially return to the top of the ATP rankings on Monday, further cementing his position as one of the leading figures in men’s tennis.
