Imran Khan Being Moved From Jail? PTI Alleges Secret Hospital Transfer Plan
Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan is at the centre of fresh controversy after his party claimed authorities may secretly shift him from jail to a hospital without informing his family.
In a strongly worded statement, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said it was “deeply concerned” over reports suggesting plans to move its founder for medical treatment without taking his relatives into confidence. The party termed any such move a “blatant violation” of fundamental rights and legal requirements.
“We totally reject any form of secrecy surrounding the health of the former Prime Minister,” PTI said, warning that concealing facts would amount to deliberately putting Khan’s life at risk.
The party insisted that any medical examination should take place in the presence of Khan’s personal doctors and at least one family member to ensure transparency.
Khan is currently lodged at the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where he has been held since August 2023 following his conviction in a corruption case.
Government Says Transfer Linked To New Jail Facility
Amid mounting speculation, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Friday that Khan would eventually be shifted to a newly constructed jail in Islamabad once it becomes operational in the next two months. According to Naqvi, the new facility will include medical infrastructure.
The development comes against the backdrop of alarming claims about Khan’s health. A report prepared by Supreme Court-appointed lawyer Salman Safdar, accessed by NDTV, alleges that the former premier has lost nearly 85% of vision in his right eye after authorities purportedly failed to provide timely medical care.
PTI described the reported treatment as “deliberate, inhuman, and illegal,” calling delays in medical attention “extremely unfortunate and inhumane.” The party has demanded immediate and independent medical intervention.
Supporters of Khan argue that his prolonged incarceration — including periods of solitary confinement — is part of a broader effort by Pakistan’s powerful establishment to weaken a popular civilian leader. Khan, according to the report, has said he expects “nothing beyond the basic necessities essential for his survival.”
