OpenClaw Rolls Out Major Updates, Makes Multiple AI Models Free and Easier to Access
AI platform OpenClaw has announced a fresh set of updates aimed at improving speed, usability, and flexibility for developers. The latest release introduces shell completion, allowing faster command typing, along with multiple fixes to Telegram, including improved message threading and better content rendering.
A key highlight of the update is OpenClaw’s decision to offer Kimi K2.5 and Kimi Coding for free, alongside MiniMax, which can now be accessed through a single OAuth login. The move enables users to switch seamlessly between AI models and run them locally on their own systems, giving developers greater control over data and workflows.
In a post on X, OpenClaw said, “Kimi K2.5 + Kimi Coding: run your claw for free,” adding that MiniMax was now “just a login away.” The platform has also rolled out community-driven fixes across apps such as LINE and BlueBubbles, along with improvements in routing, security, and login systems.
Industry observers described OpenClaw’s strategy as unconventional, noting that most AI platforms lock users into a single model. By contrast, OpenClaw is encouraging model flexibility, a move analysts say could increase long-term user retention.
The update comes amid heightened competition in the AI sector, with Moonshot AI and Alibaba Cloud recently unveiling advanced models like Kimi K2.5 and Qwen3-Max-Thinking, narrowing the gap with leading US firms. While OpenClaw’s open and local-first approach has drawn attention, experts have also flagged potential security risks, as AI agents often require deep system-level access.
Despite these concerns, OpenClaw’s latest release positions it as a growing player focused on user freedom, model diversity, and developer-centric design.
