Veteran Masjid An-Nabawi Muadhin Sheikh Faisal bin Abdul Malik Nauman Dies in Madinah

MADINAH: Sheikh Faisal bin Abdul Malik Nauman, one of the senior and longest-serving muadhins of Masjid An-Nabawi, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2025, marking the loss of a familiar and revered voice at Islam’s second-holiest site.

The Presidency of Religious Affairs at the Prophet’s Mosque announced his death and expressed condolences to his family, fellow muadhins, and the broader Muslim community. His passing was met with widespread sorrow among worshippers who had long associated his call to prayer with the spiritual atmosphere of Madinah.

Over the course of his service, Sheikh Nauman witnessed major expansions of Masjid An-Nabawi and called the adhan during moments of historic significance. His voice resonated across the mosque during Ramadan night prayers and other major congregations that drew millions of worshippers from around the world.

Funeral prayers held after Fajr

Funeral prayers were offered at Masjid An-Nabawi after the Fajr prayer, following which Sheikh Nauman was laid to rest at the historic Al-Baqi cemetery.

Several well-known Islamic scholars and mosque officials attended the funeral, reflecting the respect he commanded within religious circles. Those present included Sheikh Muhammad Barhajji, Sheikh Abdullah Al Hunainy, Sheikh Saud Bukhari, Sheikh Muhammad Hakim, Sheikh Anas Sharif, Sheikh Adil Katib, Sheikh Muhammad Qassas, Sheikh Hasan Khashuqji, Sheikh Iyaad Shukri, Sheikh Ahmad Al Ansaari, and Sheikh Ahmad Afifi.

A family legacy of adhan

Sheikh Faisal Nauman was appointed as a muadhin of Masjid An-Nabawi in 2001 (1422 AH), continuing a tradition deeply rooted in his family. The role of calling believers to prayer at the Prophet’s Mosque had been passed down through generations.

His grandfather served as a muadhin at the mosque, while his father was appointed to the position at the age of fourteen and continued serving for decades. His father remained committed to the duty until his passing at more than ninety years old, leaving behind a rare legacy of lifelong devotion.

Sheikh Faisal carried that heritage forward with quiet dedication. Over 25 years of service, from 1422 to 1447 AH (2001–2025), he became known for his humility, consistency, and reverence for the sacred responsibility entrusted to him.

With his death, Masjid An-Nabawi loses not just a muadhin, but a voice that had become part of its daily rhythm—one that guided generations of worshippers to prayer.
