Omar Abdullah Expresses Concern Over Disparate International Response to Conflicts
1. Differing International Treatment Amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, shared his concerns over the perceived inconsistency in the international community’s response to global conflicts. Speaking to reporters, the National Conference (NC) Vice President emphasized the loss of innocent lives in Gaza due to bombings, pointing out the disparity in the treatment of Russia and Israel.
2. Calls for Fair Assessment Abdullah questioned the international community, highlighting the apparent contradiction between the world’s condemnation of Russia’s actions in Ukraine, considering it a war crime, and the less stringent response to Israel’s actions in Gaza. He called for a fair and consistent approach in evaluating and addressing global conflicts, emphasizing the need for collective international judgment.
3. Rising Casualties in Gaza The conflict in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 5,087 Palestinians since October 7. Abdullah’s concerns echo those of many prominent political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, including the NC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who have denounced the conflict and called for a peaceful resolution.
Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti, led a protest against Israel’s actions during the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. She and fellow protesters chanted slogans urging Israel to cease its operations in Palestine. Mufti expressed anguish over the loss of lives, particularly among children and civilians, emphasizing the need for international intervention to achieve a ceasefire and prevent further atrocities in the region.
Mufti stressed that the Israel-Palestine conflict is not solely a Muslim issue but a humanitarian concern. She urged the international community to take proactive measures to resolve the ongoing crisis and prevent further bloodshed, ultimately condemning the actions by Hamas in the region.
