
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq House Arrested; Jamia Auqaf condemns the arrest
Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Molvi Umar Farooq, was taken into house arrest and was prevented from delivering the Friday sermon and offering the congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
The Auqaf in a statement condemns the arrest, and expressed a deep shock over the authorities decision.
The Auqaf labels the decision a unjustified move, that too in the holy month of Ramadan. As thousands of worshippers flock to Jamia Masjid Srinagar, such a restriction on mirwaiz Umar Farooq was also condemned by different sections of society.
The Anjaman further noted that thousands of people turns to historic mosque to listen the sermons of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and called it as an attack on religious freedom.
The Auqaf demanded the immediate release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and pushed upon the authorities to allow him to fulfill his religious obligations.
