
Boat capsizes near Morocco – Spain; 44 Pakistani migrants killed
Forty-four Pakistani migrants among 50 were killed after a boat carrying Pakistani migrants capsized near Morocco, Spain, as reported by Express Trbune.
As per details surfaced, the boat, which departed from Mauritania on January 02, carrying 86 migrants, including 66 migrants from Pakistan.
As per migrants rights group Walking Borders, Moroccan authorities rescued 36 people from the boat on Wednesday.
Walking Borders Group, based in Madrid and Navara, informed the authorities about the disappearance of the boat, and an alarm was raised.
The Pakistani prime minister has sought a report from the concerned authorities and expressed deep sorrow over this tragic boat accident that claimed the lives of 40 Pakistani migrants.
Pakistani Prime Minister hinted at strict and stern action against those who are involved in human trafficking and batted for zero tolerance against such accidents.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office also confirmed the death of several Pakistani migrants and stated that the embassy is in contact with the authorities.
Whereas, it has been said that the Crisis Management Unit has dispatched a team to Dakhla, where the survivors are currently residing, for assistance.
The Pakistani embassy in Morocco also reported the tragic boat accident, in which nearly 80 passengers were en route, including Pakistani migrants.

Local officials and humanitarian groups have raised a serious concern and called on Spain and Europe to take stern action to prevent further loss of human lives.
Fernando Clavijo, the regional leader of the Canary Islands, extends his condolences and urges international leaders to address this humanitarian crisis.
He stated that Atlantic cannot continue to be a graveyard of Africa and called on the global leaders to address this burning issue.

As per details summed up by the Walking Borders Group, a record number of 10,457 migrants’ deaths have been recorded in the year 2024 while attempting to reach Spain via the Atlantic route.
