Handwara, Sept 24: Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) president and Baramulla MP, Er Rashid, has vowed to launch a hunger strike if Article 370 is not reinstated. Speaking at a public rally in Handwara, Kupwara district, Rashid said he plans to pressure Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restore the article, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
During his speech, Rashid also took aim at political rivals, including National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari, stating that they are losing ground among the public. “These leaders have been exposed, and their influence is diminishing,” he asserted.
Addressing his critics, Rashid acknowledged their right to voice opposition but emphasized that electoral verdicts are more significant. Reflecting on his time in Tihar Jail, he expressed pride in his sacrifices, contrasting himself with others who “enjoyed power” during his incarceration.
Rashid, who is set to return to Tihar Jail on October 4, expressed optimism about fulfilling his promises to the people of Kashmir.
He compared his legal struggles to those of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who received bail from the Supreme Court, asserting his own innocence and right to legal recourse.
He also accused Farooq Abdullah of large-scale corruption while evading legal consequences, in contrast to his own five-and-a-half-year imprisonment.
On his alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami, Rashid defended the partnership, stressing the need for all pro-Kashmir forces to unite and seek a peaceful resolution to the region’s challenges.
