Key Highlights:
- Over 550 Lebanese fatalities, including 50 children, from Israeli strikes
- Hezbollah retaliates with missile attacks on Israeli air bases
- UN and global leaders call for immediate de-escalation
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health confirmed 558 fatalities resulting from recent Israeli military strikes, including 50 children, according to a report by Al Jazeera. Additionally, 1,835 people have been injured amid the ongoing conflict.
In retaliation, Hezbollah launched missiles at Israeli air bases as tensions between Israel and the Iran-backed group escalated. World leaders and the United Nations have urged both sides to de-escalate immediately, with fears of further escalation in the region.
Israel has continued its airstrikes, targeting Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, the Beqaa Valley, and other regions. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced they struck over 1,600 targets, including missile launchers, command posts, and Hezbollah sites located in civilian homes.
Israeli artillery and tanks also hit Hezbollah positions near the Lebanese border, including Ayta ash Shab and Ramyeh.
On Monday, the IDF reported 210 rockets were fired into Israel from Hezbollah. Several Israelis were injured, some while seeking shelter, others from shrapnel or panic attacks.
Just a day earlier, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health had reported 182 deaths and over 700 injuries from Israeli airstrikes. Women, children, and medics were among those killed.
Israel’s forces struck around 300 Hezbollah-related targets, and urged Lebanese civilians to vacate areas used by Hezbollah for storing weapons.
Israel is pushing for Hezbollah’s disarmament and removal from southern Lebanon, in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 Lebanon War.
