Surankote, Jammu, Sep 23 (NVI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has pledged to push for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, asserting that if the BJP-led government at the Centre fails to act, the Congress knows how to achieve it.
Speaking to a large crowd in Surankote, Poonch, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) remarked that the INDIA alliance has managed to disrupt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s confidence, as reflected in his recent demeanor.
Gandhi highlighted the BJP’s role in sowing division within J&K, specifically accusing the party of setting the Gujjar and Pahari communities against each other through selective reservations. He called out the BJP’s promotion of hatred and division, contrasting it with Congress’s ideology of love and unity.
“This is a fight between two ideologies: one that spreads hatred and another that promotes love,” Gandhi stated.
On statehood, Gandhi reaffirmed the Congress party’s priority to apply pressure on the government. “If the BJP fails to restore statehood after elections, we will ensure it is done,” he declared.
He also underscored that J&K is the first state in India’s history to be downgraded to a Union Territory, condemning the BJP’s handling of the region.
The Congress leader further accused the Modi government of fueling unemployment and favoring large corporations, alleging that loans worth Rs 16 lakh crores were written off for the Adani and Ambani groups. Gandhi is set to address another major rally later in Srinagar.
