Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to launch the BJP’s poll campaign during a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, starting Friday. His visit comes at a pivotal time as the party faces growing challenges ahead of the assembly elections, with internal dissent simmering due to ticket distribution.
Several BJP leaders and workers have protested after being denied tickets, with a few even quitting the party.
Upon arrival in Jammu, Shah was welcomed by Union ministers G Kishan Reddy and Jitendra Singh, along with BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh and senior party leaders from Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah’s visit will involve critical discussions with the BJP leadership regarding the upcoming elections.
At 4 pm, Shah will release the BJP’s manifesto during an event at a local hotel, according to a party leader. Later, he is scheduled to meet with BJP leaders and various delegations of party workers to strategize for the elections.
On Saturday, Shah will officially launch the BJP’s campaign from Jammu, addressing a rally that is expected to draw significant attention.
The visit also marks an effort to address the growing resentment within the party over ticket distribution, a move that has seen top leaders, including Union ministers, working to resolve the discontent over the past week.
Security has been heightened in Jammu with multi-tier arrangements in place, particularly at the two key venues in Channi and Greater Kailash areas, where Shah’s events are planned.
Preparations for his rally at Palora Top are also in full swing, with extensive security measures and area sanitization protocols in effect.
