In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two individuals involved in drug peddling in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir. The arrests occurred on Friday during a coordinated operation aimed at curbing the illegal drug trade in the region.

According to a police spokesperson, the operation was part of the Anantnag Police’s ongoing campaign against drug suppliers. A police team from Police Post Shairbagh had set up a checkpoint at Pehroo Curve in Anantnag.

During the operation, they intercepted a vehicle with the registration number DL7CJ-8332. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered approximately 19 kilograms of poppy straw, a substance commonly used in the illegal drug trade.

The two occupants of the vehicle, identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, son of Ab Rehman Mir, and Tariq Ahmad Mir, son of Gh Hassan, both residents of Mir Check Mattan, were immediately taken into custody. The police seized the contraband along with the vehicle used in the crime.

A case has been registered under FIR No. 169/2024 at Police Station Anantnag, and further investigation is currently underway. The police are determined to identify and apprehend others involved in this illegal operation.

In their statement, the Anantnag Police urged the public to cooperate in the fight against drug peddling by providing any information that could lead to the arrest of individuals involved in such activities.

They emphasized that those caught in the act of drug peddling would face the full force of the law, reiterating their commitment to achieving a drug-free society in the region.
