In a shocking incident, a 50-year-old woman was abandoned by her son and daughter-in-law during a family trip to Kashmir following a bitter argument. The woman, Anari Sheikh, was left stranded without money or a mobile phone, ultimately requiring rescue by local police.
The incident, reported by Times of India from Kolkata, took place approximately 12 days ago when Anari, her son Saheb Sheikh, 27, and his wife embarked on a trip to Kashmir.
Three days ago, Saheb and his wife returned alone to their home in Canning, West Bengal, sparking concern among relatives and neighbors. The couple’s unusual return without Anari led Saheb’s aunt to file a complaint with the local police.
Upon being questioned by officers from the Canning Police Station, the couple admitted to abandoning Anari in Kashmir after a heated quarrel between her and Saheb’s wife.
Ram K Mondal, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Canning, confirmed the couple’s arrest, stating, “Our team rescued her. The couple has been arrested.”
The incident has raised serious concerns about family dynamics and the responsibilities of caring for elderly relatives.
Anari, who is barely literate and had no means of communication, expressed her relief after being rescued. “I had lost all hope. I’m happy the police rescued me,” she said.
The case has shocked the local community and brought to light the complex and often difficult relationships within families, especially concerning the care of elderly members.
Saheb and his wife are currently in police custody and face legal consequences for their actions.
