Twelve-member teams, including four divers from India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have joined the Nepali search teams to locate two buses that have been missing in the Trishuli River since a landslide struck on July 12. The landslide, which occurred along the Narayanghat-Muglin road section, swept away the buses carrying 65 passengers.
Three passengers managed to escape the buses and swim to safety. The Indian team arrived in Chitwan on Saturday and commenced the search operation on Sunday morning. Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav confirmed, “A 12-member team of India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been carrying out the search operation since this morning.”
Nepali rescue teams, including the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and the Armed Police Force (APF), have been tirelessly searching for the buses and passengers since the incident. Despite their efforts, the buses remain untraceable.
The landslide at Simaltal on the Narayanghat-Mugling road section washed the buses into the Trishuli River. Over 200 security personnel have been deployed in the search efforts. So far, 25 bodies have been recovered from various locations, and 17 individuals have been identified.
The whereabouts of the two buses and the remaining 37 passengers are still unknown. The rescue team from India was called in by the Nepali government due to a lack of manpower and proper equipment to handle the extensive search operation.
