Key Highlights:
- Kaspersky report reveals a 300% increase in espionage-related cyberattacks in Pakistan.

- Spyware attacks spike by 300% in Q1 2024, signaling heightened concerns over data breaches.
According to a recent report by the Kaspersky Response and Detection Team, espionage-related cyberattacks in Pakistan have surged by a staggering 300% in the initial quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, as reported by ARY News. This alarming trend underscores the escalating threat of cyber warfare, with attacks involving direct human participation surpassing two per day in 2023.
The spike in cyberattacks has been observed across various sectors, including finance, IT, government, and industrial fields, with the public sector experiencing a 22.9% increase, followed by IT companies with 15.4%, and the financial and industrial sectors at 14.9% and 11.8% respectively. Of particular concern is the surge in spyware attacks by a remarkable 300% in Q1 2024 compared to the same period last year, highlighting heightened risks of espionage and data breaches.
While the report indicates a decline in banking malware attacks, backdoor attacks have slightly increased in 2024, emphasizing persistent vulnerabilities in digital infrastructure. Hafeez Rehman, Kaspersky’s technical group manager, warned against the sophistication of targeted attacks, stressing the importance of effective automated cybersecurity solutions and managed security services to mitigate risks effectively.
