Indian Army to Receive Hermes-900 Drone for Border Surveillance
- Hermes-900, dubbed Drishti-10, to enhance surveillance along Pakistan border.
- Adani Defence Systems supplying drones to Indian Army and Navy.
- Delivery aligns with emergency procurement to bolster indigenous capabilities.
In a significant development for border surveillance, the Indian Army is poised to receive the first Hermes-900 Starliner drone, also known as Drishti-10, on May 18. Supplied by Adani Defence Systems, the drone is set to bolster India’s surveillance capabilities along the Pakistan border.
Under emergency provisions granted by the Defence Ministry, the Indian Army is acquiring two Hermes-900 drones, with the first delivery scheduled for May 18 in Hyderabad. These drones will be deployed at the Bhatinda base to monitor the entire western border with Pakistan.
Adhering to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the procurement mandates that the systems supplied should be more than 60% indigenous. Adani Defence, in collaboration with Israeli firm Elbit, has indigenized 70% of the drones and aims to increase this percentage further.
The Indian Navy, having already received one Hermes-900 earlier this year, is poised to acquire another. These drones, equipped with satellite communication capabilities, will be positioned in Porbandar to monitor the maritime boundary with Pakistan and beyond, owing to their impressive range and endurance capabilities.
