Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Urges Schools: No Summer Classes
With Tamil Nadu facing scorching temperatures and looming heatwaves, Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena urges schools to prioritize student safety by refraining from conducting special classes during summer holidays. As parts of Tamil Nadu endure severe heat and heatwave-like conditions, there’s a growing concern for the health and well-being of individuals, particularly children. Meena emphasizes the gravity of the situation, calling for district collectors to ensure strict compliance with the directive to suspend summer classes.
Directive to Shield Children from Heatwave Effects
Meena underscores the importance of shielding children from the potentially harmful effects of extreme heat by halting all coaching, special classes, and programs during summer holidays. Citing projections from the India Meteorological Department, Meena warns of temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius until May 16, urging proactive measures to mitigate the impact on students. Officials have been briefed on the necessary measures to address heat-related illnesses, underscoring the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health during the summer months.
Proactive Measures Against Heatwave Threat
In light of the IMD’s summer forecast, which includes projections for maximum temperatures and heatwave conditions in Tamil Nadu and other parts of peninsular India, Meena’s directive underscores the need for proactive measures to protect vulnerable populations. By suspending summer classes, schools play a critical role in minimizing the risk of heat-related illnesses among students.
