The Islamabad High Court has ruled in favor of placing Pervez Elahi, former Punjab Chief Minister and President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), under house arrest within 15 days, as per ARY News. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir delivered the verdict on a petition filed by Qaisara Elahi, Pervez Elahi’s wife, directing authorities to move him to a sub-jail and ensure proper medical care due to his age (78) and health concerns.
Pervez Elahi’s health deterioration while in Adiala jail, where he suffered a bone fracture after slipping in the washroom on March 17, prompted the court’s decision. The Deputy Superintendent of Adiala jail presented Elahi’s medical report during a hearing related to illegal recruitment in the Punjab Assembly, indicating a minor fracture sustained by Elahi.
Facing multiple arrests since June 1 in various cases, the most recent arrest on September 18 by the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment implicated Elahi in 12 illegal recruitments for Grade 17 positions in the Punjab Assembly. These appointments allegedly involved tampering with records, as reported by ARY News.
