AAP Accuses BJP of Politically Motivated Summons
Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Gopal Rai, has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is pressuring probe agencies to issue summons to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Rai stated that the recent summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are politically motivated and criticized the repeated pressure from the BJP.
Kejriwal Skips ED Summons
Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor, did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) money laundering probe. The BJP responded, asserting that the DJB case surpasses the magnitude of a liquor scam, implying Kejriwal’s evasion from accountability.
Delhi BJP President, Virendraa Sachdeva, accused Kejriwal of corruption, emphasizing that he is avoiding the DJB summons. Additionally, BJP leader Harish Khurana criticized Kejriwal’s disregard for the law, stating that the repeated evasion of ED summons suggests potential wrongdoing.
ED’s Investigation
The ED’s probe into the DJB money laundering case led to the issuance of multiple summons to Kejriwal. This case follows the arrest of a retired chief engineer and a contractor earlier this year. The investigation is centered on irregularities in DJB’s tendering process, stemming from complaints lodged by the CBI and the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi government.
Kejriwal’s Response and Future Summons
Kejriwal has consistently labeled the summons as “illegal and politically motivated,” evading eight previous ones. The ED seeks to record Kejriwal’s statement regarding issues related to the Delhi Excise Policy case, with another summons issued for March 21.
