MHA Extends Ban on JKLF-Y for Five More Years
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has extended the ban on the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (Mohd. Yasin Malik faction) as an ‘unlawful association’ for a further period of five years. This move comes following inputs against the outfit, known as the JKLF-Y, for its involvement in activities prejudicial to security and public order, with the potential to disrupt the unity and integrity of the country.
Fresh Report Highlights Continued Involvement
As per a fresh report received by the MHA, the JKLF-Y remains involved in anti-national and subversive activities aimed at disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India. The outfit is allegedly in close contact with militant groups, supporting extremism and militancy in Jammu and Kashmir and beyond.
Rationale Behind the Decision
The MHA justified its action, stating that if the unlawful activities of the JKLF-Y are not curbed immediately, it could escalate its subversive activities, including attempts to carve out a separate state from the territory of India. The outfit is accused of advocating secession, propagating anti-national sentiments, and inciting violence.
Union Home Minister’s Response
Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended the action taken by the ministry, emphasizing the government’s firm stance against any threat to the security, sovereignty, and integrity of the nation. He reiterated that those challenging the nation’s stability would face severe legal consequences.
