ED Raids in Bihar’s Arrah District
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at multiple locations in Bihar’s Arrah district on Saturday as part of a money laundering probe against sand trader Krishna Mohan Singh. The investigation is linked to illegal sand mining and its sale, with raids conducted under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Focus on Singh’s Assets
The agency raided Singh’s residence in Arrah and other locations in close coordination with state police. Singh’s assets in Arrah’s Anand Nagar locality are also under the ED’s radar. The probe aims to uncover unaccounted wealth earned by the trader from the sand business.
Connection to Broadsons Commodities Pvt Ltd
The case appears to be connected to a money laundering case against Broadsons Commodities Pvt Ltd. Last month, the ED provisionally attached two immovable properties worth Rs 26.19 crore acquired by Radha Charan Sah, MLC, Bihar Legislative Council, under the PMLA, 2002.
Illegal Sand Mining Allegations
Broadsons Commodities Pvt Ltd is accused of illegal sand mining and selling sand without using departmental pre-paid transportation e-challan issued by the mining authority in Bihar. The agency alleges a revenue loss of Rs 161.15 crore to the government exchequer due to these activities.
Syndicate Involvement and Money Laundering
ED investigation revealed a syndicate controlling illegal sand sale and mining, with Radha Charan Sah being a syndicate member. Proceeds of crime were allegedly laundered through his son Kanhaiya Prasad using the Hawala network. The laundered funds were used for acquiring and developing a resort in Manali and construction in a school in Ghaziabad.
Legal Proceedings
Earlier searches led to cash seizures, and arrests were made, with the accused currently in judicial custody. A Prosecution Complaint was filed in the case before the PMLA court in Patna on November 10 last year.
