Congress Leaders Seek Enhanced Security for Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra in Maharashtra

In preparations for Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ entering Maharashtra on March 12, Congress leaders, including Vijay Wadettiwar, Balasaheb Thorat, and Varsha Gaikwad, are meeting with Maharashtra Director General of Police, Rashmi Shukla. Their objective is to request heightened security measures for the yatra.

Members of INDIA Bloc to Join the Yatra

The final leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is expected to witness the participation of members from the INDIA alliance between March 12-17. Jairam Ramesh, a Congress MP, highlighted the success of the yatra’s mission, ‘Panch Nyay,’ and mentioned the presence of the INDIA alliance during the closing stages.

Political Landscape in Maharashtra

The Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SPawar) form the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra. Additional smaller parties like Swambhimani Vikash Parishad (SWP) and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) are likely to join the Congress-led alliance. This political coalition is gearing up as the state sends 48 legislators to the Lok Sabha.

Recent Developments and High-Profile Exits

The yatra comes at a crucial time for the Congress, following notable exits such as former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan joining the BJP and former Union minister Milind Deora aligning with Shiv Sena. Despite these challenges, the Congress is pushing forward with its ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,’ covering 6,700 km through 15 states in the lead-up to the imminent Lok Sabha polls likely to be held in April-May.
