US Secretary of State and Kenyan President Discuss Crisis in Haiti

Both leaders emphasized their commitment to deploying a Multinational Security Support mission to aid the Haitian National Police in creating conditions necessary for free and fair elections. Haitian Gang Leader Warns of Civil War and “Genocide”
Haitian gang leader Jimmy Cherizier, also known as Barbecue, warned of initiating a civil war and “genocide” unless Prime Minister Ariel Henry resigns. Cherizier and other armed criminal gangs launched a coordinated assault to remove the prime minister, prompting concerns about the deteriorating situation in Haiti. The U.S. and Kenya reiterated their commitment to resolving the political and security crisis in the country, emphasizing the need for free and fair elections.
Haiti Faces Escalating Gang Violence and Political Unrest
Haiti declared a state of emergency after gangs raided its largest prisons, allowing thousands of prisoners to escape. Gang violence has surged, and Prime Minister Henry, who was expected to step down for elections, faces increasing pressure.
