    Dhaka Conference Strengthens India-Bangladesh Border Cooperation

    India and Bangladesh recently held a Directors General Level Coordination Conference in Dhaka, emphasizing measures to prevent trans-border crimes and enhance border infrastructure. The conference, led by top officials from both nations, highlighted their commitment to a lasting relationship.

    Building Robust Cooperation

    The Indian delegation, headed by Nitin Agrawal, Director General of Border Security Force (BSF), and the Bangladesh delegation, led by Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh, engaged in comprehensive discussions on border management and cooperation.

    Key Agendas and Commitments

    BSF’s priorities included preventing attacks and trans-border crimes, addressing insurgent groups, and managing border infrastructure. Conversely, BGB focused on preventing border crimes, addressing violations, and managing infrastructure. Both sides committed to resolving border issues through constructive engagement.

    Towards a Peaceful Border

    Decisions were made to implement conference outcomes, emphasizing coordinated patrols and public awareness to minimize incidents. Leaders underscored the importance of joint efforts to uphold human rights, using measures like joint patrolling, vigilance, awareness programs, socio-economic development, and real-time information sharing.

    Future Engagements and Commitments

    India and Bangladesh expressed satisfaction with the conference outcomes and pledged to continue bilateral engagements. These include quarterly meetings, joint patrolling, retreat ceremonies, goodwill visits, and training exchange programs. The next DG level conference is provisionally scheduled for September or October in New Delhi.
