Tourists Stranded in Himachal Pradesh’s Spiti Valley Rescued Amid Heavy Snowfall

Amid heavy snowfall leading to road closures in Himachal Pradesh’s Spiti Valley, 81 stranded tourists have been successfully shifted to safer places. The closure of over 650 roads, including five national highways, persists due to avalanches and landslides triggered by continuous rain and snowfall over the past three days. The stranded tourists in Spiti Valley were relocated to various hotels and homestays, addressing concerns arising from the adverse weather conditions. The ongoing weather challenges have also disrupted mobile networks and electricity supply in several areas, highlighting the impact on essential services.

    Challenges and Alerts

Lahaul and Spiti district face significant road blockages, with approximately 290 roads obstructed, posing challenges for transportation. An avalanche near Dara Waterfall in Lahaul and Spiti prompted alerts in the adjoining areas, emphasizing the need for caution among residents. Authorities have advised residents to stay vigilant and report emergencies to the nearest police post.

    Cold Wave Conditions

The state continues to experience cold wave conditions, adding to the weather-related challenges in the region. The concerted efforts to rescue stranded tourists reflect the response to the adverse weather situation and the commitment to ensuring public safety in the affected areas.
