US Deputy Secretary of State:Taiwan’s Ongoing Vigilance: Military Activity in the Taiwan Strait
Simultaneously, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the detection of nine Chinese military aircraft and eight naval vessels around Taiwan. Notably, four People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft breached the Taiwan Strait median line, entering the southwest corner of Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ). The MND responded promptly, deploying appropriate resources and forces to monitor and address the situation.
Throughout February, Taiwan has witnessed a surge in Chinese military activity, detecting over 250 aircraft and 150 naval ships on 150 occasions, as per Taiwan News reports. Since September 2020, China has employed ‘grey zone tactics,’ gradually escalating its military presence around Taiwan, a strategy aimed at achieving security objectives without direct and sizable use of force. This persistent tension underscores the delicate geopolitical balance in the region.
