US Blocks UNSC Statement on Gaza City Massacre Blaming Israel
The United States has prevented the UN Security Council from issuing a statement, proposed by Algeria, that would have assigned blame to Israel for the killing of more than 100 Palestinians in northern Gaza awaiting food aid.
Palestine’s UN ambassador, Riyad Mansour, reported that all 15 UNSC members supported the statement except the US.
US Ambassador Robert Wood justified blocking the statement, stating, “We don’t have all the facts on the ground – that’s the problem.”
He mentioned ongoing efforts to verify the circumstances surrounding the deaths, aiming to find language agreeable to all parties.
