In connection with the tragic incident where four Indians froze to death near Manitoba’s southern border with the US two years ago, an Indian-origin man named Harshkumar Patel, also known as “Dirty Harry,” has been arrested in the United States. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) News reported that Patel was apprehended at Chicago airport last week. He faces charges related to the “transportation of illegal aliens and conspiracy to bring and attempt to bring an illegal alien to the United States.”

Court documents reveal that Harshkumar Patel recruited alleged smuggler Steve Shand, a Florida resident, who was arrested on January 19 after the recovery of bodies. The police complaint outlines communication between Patel and Shand, discussing logistics such as rental cars, hotels, and payments. One message from Patel instructs Shand to ensure everyone is dressed for blizzard conditions. The affidavit indicates that Shand made five trips to the international border in Minnesota between December 2021 and January 2022, transporting Indian nationals, including the ill-fated January 19 trip.

Indian-Origin Man Arrested in US: Tragic Deaths of the Patel Family

The victims, Jagdish Baldevbhai Patel, his wife Vaishaliben Jagdishkumar Patel, and their children Vihangi Jagdishkumar and Dharmik Jagdishkumar, were found frozen to death near Emerson, Manitoba, on January 19, 2022. The family had arrived in Toronto on January 12, 2022, as their first entry point into Canada. Tragically, they lost their lives near the US-Canada border due to extreme weather conditions. Investigations had previously indicated that someone drove the family to the border, leaving them exposed to the harsh weather.
