Union Minister Inaugurates National Public Health India Conference

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, SP Singh Baghel, inaugurated the first National Public Health India Conference (NPHICON-2024) in the national capital. Organized by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the three-day event aims to advance public health discourse and align policies with the Prime Minister’s vision for Viksit Bharat.

Significance of the Conference

Minister Baghel emphasized the conference’s importance in fostering discussions among experts, doctors, and researchers in the health sector. The event provides a platform to share research findings, discuss ongoing health schemes, and explore ways to enhance public health policies. The Ayushman Bharat Scheme, a flagship initiative of the Government of India, was highlighted for its impact on reducing diseases like Kala-azar, Japanese fever, and dengue.

Achievements in Public Health

The Minister credited government schemes, including the construction of 4 crore toilets in rural areas, providing smokeless gas cylinders to 12 crore people, and building 4 crore ‘pucca’ houses, for the reduction of diseases in rural areas. Access to 24-hour electricity has contributed to improving living conditions and reducing mosquito-borne illnesses. The efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to public health improvement.

Focus on Infectious Diseases

Dr. Atul Goel, DGHS, National Center for Disease Control, highlighted ongoing efforts to eliminate infectious diseases like Kala-Azar, TB, rabies, and malaria. Programs initiated by the Health Ministry, coupled with rural housing schemes, have played a crucial role in disease prevention. The conference serves as a platform to discuss strategies, research findings, and best practices related to infectious diseases.

Launch of Initiatives

During the event, a revamped NCDC website, a new e-journal (Epi-Dis-Phere Public Health Resilience), and an e-techno-doc comprising oral and poster abstracts were launched. The initiatives aim to enhance information dissemination and promote collaboration among experts, researchers, students, and practitioners in the public health domain.
