
EAM JaiShankar Meets US Defense Secretary and Commerce Secretary
India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, held productive discussions with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo during his visit to the United States. The meetings covered various aspects of bilateral cooperation and global security challenges.
Meeting with Defense Secretary Austin
During their meeting at the Pentagon, Minister Jaishankar and Defense Secretary Austin discussed the deepening of bilateral defense cooperation, including the co-production of defense articles. They also exchanged views on global security challenges. Austin expressed his satisfaction with the visit, highlighting the importance of US-India cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region.
The discussions explored opportunities to enhance defense cooperation further, including expanded defense industrial cooperation, streamlined logistics procedures to improve operational collaboration, and the continued implementation of the India-US Defense Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X).

Meeting with Commerce Secretary Raimondo
In the meeting with Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, both sides appreciated the significant progress in technology collaboration and economic partnership between India and the United States in the current year. They agreed to build on this momentum for the future.
Other High-Level Meetings
During his visit to the United States, Minister Jaishankar also had meetings with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. He engaged with the business community through events organized by the US India Strategic and Partnership Forum and the US India Business Council (USIBC).
Next Steps
Minister Jaishankar emphasized that the discussions were aimed at assessing progress and implementing various agreements and understandings reached during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States in June. The upcoming 2+2 meeting, which will involve Secretary Blinken and Secretary Austin, is expected to build on these discussions.
The discussions encompassed trade issues, cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, technology collaboration, and supply chain resilience. Both sides expressed interest in working constructively on the broader agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and reforming the organization to better serve global needs.
India and the United States are committed to enhancing their bilateral partnership across various sectors, reflecting the growing strategic and economic ties between the two nations.
